Having trouble finding something to complete the Christmas shopping list? Well, if you’re one of the lucky 333 people to zoom to the Audi dealers now, this could be the best Christmas present this year.
In a nutshell, Audi will only make 333 A1 quattros in left-hand drive, due in the second half of 2012. It has 256 hp and it does 0-100 km/h in 5.7 seconds. You jelly?
Looking pretty similar to the one-off A1 clubsport quattro, but with a less mental 2.0-litre, TFSI engine making 350 Nm of torque between 2,500 and 4,500 rpm. All these figures helps it achieve a top speed of 245 km/h. Also, it is expected to deliver more than 11.7km/l, not that you would care that much.
The power is served through a permanent all-wheel drive system via a six-speed transmission. During normal driving, the clutch sends most of the engine’s power to the front wheels. If a wheel on one of the axles should slip, it is braked by the electronic differential lock. The power steering has been tuned for a more direct 14.8:1 steering ratio.
The Audi A1 quattro rolls on 18×8 fitted with 225/35 tires. The ESP stabilization program includes a sport mode and can be switched off entirely for a trip. It is available only in Glacier White metallic, and its roof is painted high-gloss black. The A1 quattro is a bit longer than the standard A1 but to accommodate the quattro stuff, the boot space has been pinched to 210 litres. The interior receives a racier dashboard design, aluminum pedals and bits, bucket seats and finished in and black leather with red stitching.
The Audi A1 quattro comes with tons of toys including xenon plus headlights, high-beam assistant, adaptive brake lights, LED interior lighting package, light and rain sensor, automatically dimming interior mirror, rear parking system, automatic air conditioning, alarm system, storage package, convenience key and cruise control….
…CD changer, a digital radio tuner, the Audi music interface and MMI navigation plus with 14 Bose-designed speakers. It can connect to the Internet and deliver special web services, including Google Earth and has an integrated WLAN hotspot.
Will all these luxury features matter when 256 hp and 350 Nm make you go “yee!”? We thought so too…
