Stunning looking concept launched at Hyundai’s home motor show.
Hyundai is on fire right now. Their design team has been hard at work and has been churning out sexy cars from their design center in Namyang, S. Korea. Their latest creation is the HND-9 Concept, so-named because this is the 9th car to come out of the design studio.
Exterior wise, the car has a long bonnet and a long wheelbase and is slated to be a “next-generation luxury sports coupe.†The bold styling of the car includes details such as fluid surfaces courtesy of Hyundai’s fluidic sculpture design language, muscular body lines that run the length of the car, and Hyundai’s trademark hexagonal radiator grille. To make the car stand out even further, Hyundai has equipped it with butterfly doors and aggressively styled 3D rear lights. The rear is rounded off with a pair of exhaust tips on both sides of the car. The attractive body sits on lightweight 22-inch alloys with carbon trim to help keep the weight down.
Matching the exterior stride for stride is the styling of the interior. The cabin has been designed to give its occupants a modern and luxurious feel. The seats are made from a special mesh that projects different colours depending on what angle you view it from. The on-screen interface has been designed with hues borrowed from a jet fighter cockpit. That jet fighter feel is further enhanced with the car’s greenhouse design.
There are cues that the HND-9 would become the next generation Hyundai Genesis Coupe as they both have similar powertrains. The HND-9 is powered by a turbocharged 3.3 litre V6 engine that produces 362 bhp.
With a futuristic design and decent power under its bonnet, the HND-9 is shaping up to be a really great package indeed. All the technology and luxury inside the cabin makes the car even more desirable. At this rate of progress, I can see the production version of the HND-9 rivalling the likes of the BMW M3/M4 and the C63 AMG. All we have to do, is to wait another 3 years to see the production HND-9, and I can’t wait for the day the first HND-9 rolls off the production line.
