Volkswagen Jetta Highline Soars In

BY Joel Tam

Volkswagen freshens up the Jetta with a 'higher' trim level.

The new Jetta Highline looks set to push the hot-selling sedan to greater heights. Distinguished by chrome trimmings that run along the window line as well as around the lower radiator grille, the newly trimmed car will also come with newly designed alloy wheels.

For the first time, the Jetta's interior will be available in Corn Silk Beige, aside from the current black cabin. While this may be considered as a more 'mature' option to most, we feel it is an interior colour combination that is long overdue - lighter coloured cabins are generally more refreshing and are cooler for our climate as well.

On the note of cooling, the Highline also comes standard with ‘Climatronic’ dual zone air-conditioning. A set of sports front seats and chrome door scuff plates seal the deal on the inside.

All else remains unchanged. The torquey 1.4-litre TSI engine with 122 PS and 200 Nm of torque continues to deliver impressive performance while achieving a class leading fuel consumption figure of 6.0 L/100km.

Fortunately, the list price of the Jetta Highline is not too lofty. At $126,300 with COE, it sounds like pretty good value to us, considering the fact that it is also one of the safest cars in its class with six airbags and Electronic Stabilisation Programme (ESP), contributing to its five-star rating by Euro NCAP. Want one? The Jetta Highline will be soaring into VW showrooms from the 6th of September 2014.
