The RNS 510 radio navigation system is now a standard issue on 10 Volkswagen models.
Volkswagen’s commitment to bringing the latest automotive technology to customers continues with the new standard fitment of a satellite navigation system on 10 models. These are the Golf Sport 1.4 TSI, Golf GTI, Golf R, Scirocco 1.4 TSI, Scirocco Sport 2.0 TSI, Scirocco R, Tiguan Sport 2.0 TSI, Passat CC 1.8 TSI, Passat CC Sport 2.0 TSI and Multivan 2.0 BiTDI. As a result, the value and market competitiveness of these models has been further enhanced.
The factory-fitted RNS 510 radio navigation system uses the Global Positioning System (GPS) to provide turn-by-turn route guidance. It features full touchscreen control on its 6.5-inch widescreen display. For added convenience, voice control can be used for certain functions. The device identifies short voice commands like “start route guidance†and immediately begins to calculate the route.
There is also a DVD drive for playback of audio CDs (also in MP3 and WMA format) and audio/video DVDs (image only available when vehicle is stationary), plus an integrated 30 GB hard drive for saving navigation data and audio content. Audio in the MP3 and WMA formats can be accessed via an SD card slot located on the front of the unit. The high-resolution TFT display enables maps to also be displayed in 2D or 3D. The RNS 510 can also show topographical map details. Together with the RNS 810 and RNS 850 radio navigation systems which are fitted as standard on the new Phaeton and new Touareg respectively, the availability of the RNS 510 on a wide range of models means more Volkswagen customers can now enjoy the convenience of touchscreen navigation in their cars.
