One of Asia Pacific's leading energy company provides one year’s worth of fuel to the SPD transport service.

Christmas looks brighter for the Society for the Physically Disabled (SPD) this year, as Caltex, one of Asia Pacific's leading energy brands, has pledged support by donating one year’s worth of Caltex with Techron D diesel worth S$42,000 for the transport of their clients to and from the SPD Ability Centre. SPD works in partnership with people with physical disabilities to develop their potential with the eventual goal of making them self-reliant and independent.

For many years, SPD has been providing professional care to help unlock the hidden potential of approximately 2,800 physically disabled clients. Clients visit the SPD Ability Centre in Tiong Bahru and SPD@Tampines for a variety of services, including rehabilitation, day care, as well as IT and vocational training. Public transportation can be a challenge for some SPD clients and they rely on seven SPD-owned vans that are wheelchair-enabled and specially adapted to meet their needs, supplemented by 11 vans run by an outsourced transport provider. Many clients are from low-income families and are unable to afford charges for this transport service.

Caltex is supporting this service by providing one year’s supply of diesel for the seven SPD-owned vans to transport SPD clients to and from the SPD Ability Centre and SPD@Tampines. This initiative is one of Chevron’s Community Partnerships, where the company gives back to the community and helps meet their needs respectfully. Through the partnership with SPD, Caltex strives to help the disadvantaged lead their lives more meaningfully, reach their full potential and achieve their goals. Approximately 250 SPD clients will benefit from this donation.
