It was a tense moment for Tengku Djan (aka “Tandem Assassin”) at the Goodyear Formula DRIFT Malaysia, the final round of the three-leg Formula DRIFT Asia series.

Held at the Dataran Merdeka (or Merdeka Square) in Kuala Lumpur, Formula DRIFT Malaysia was organized by ESPN STAR Sports (ESS) and supported by Goodyear as the title sponsor. ESS is also the official broadcast channel for the Goodyear Formula DRIFT Malaysia and the broadcast of the highlight programme will be shown on its footprint of more than 300 million viewers in 24 countries.

Tengku Djan said, “It is a great feeling to have won the overall Asian Championship, although it would have been better to finish with a win in Malaysia.” He crashed out at the first elimination round of the final 32 drivers, clinching the overall title with just 28 points ahead of Non Saranon.

“This was one of the most epic Formula DRIFT events of all time,” said Tanner Foust, winner of Round 7: Title Fight. “This is the best track to drift and in front one of the biggest crowds. The drivers stepped it up from the Top 32 and on and gave everyone attending a great show. No one seemed to care about protecting their car and threw it all out there.”

Edging out Thailand’s Kokae of Goodyear Racing, Japan's Daigo Saito of TRC Racing walked away as Formula DRIFT Malaysia winner. Ryuji Miki of Goodyear SPARK Motorsports took third place, beating Rifat Sungkar of Prima XP Drift. Rifat though, walked away with a special award for his spirited performance.

This year's Formula Drift ended on a positive note and a showcase of the very best street drifting action from the region’s best drivers. Screeching tyres, billowing smoke from burning rubber, kept the sold-out crowd delighted.
