Allswell Trading Pte Ltd introduced an exciting consumer engagement initiative for Red Bull energy drink with Singapore’s inaugural Red Bull Female Driver Search.
The Red Bull Female Driver Search was first introduced in Malaysia in 2007. The search led to the formation of the “Red Bull Rookies”; an all-female racing team. With its success in various international-level endurance race events in Malaysia, Red Bull Female Driver Search has now expanded its search to Singapore. Launching its inaugural search for its first Singapore female driver to be part of its team for the Sepang 1000KM Race, to be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Red Bull scoured island wide in finding the female driver who will be able to withstand this challenge.
The Red Bull Rookies Team 2011 will be made up of two drivers from Malaysia, one from Brunei and one from Singapore. This search is open out to females age 18 to 30 years old who have a distinct passion for speed! The search was recently conducted through auditions held at various local universities and public areas. In addition, an online campaign via website and Facebook as well as local radio station Power 98 reached out to the ladies with passion in motor sports. The search began on 14 February 2011 at National University Singapore, followed by 15 February 2011 at Singapore Institute of Management, 17 February 2011 at Singapore Management University and ended with a public search at Parco Bugis Junction on 19 February 2011.
This search generated a strong interest and garnered a total of 528 submissions. Following the public search, 24 candidates were shortlisted to proceed to the next assessment round where the gutsy ladies were given an opportunity to race against each other at Kartright Speedway. 10 candidates were selected at the end of the session at Kartright. The remaining 14 will be up for Singapore’s Choice Wild Card on Red Bull Singapore's Facebook Fan Page where fans will have the power to choose two out of 14 to proceed to Sepang Circuit. Present at the selection process and press conference was Kenvin Low, Chief Trainer of Red Bull Rookies Team as well as Carmen Lim, Malaysia’s senior Red Bull Rookie who will be mentoring this year’s team.
Key attributes to make it as a Red Bull Rookie includes a good physical condition, team work, good racing techniques and excellent interpersonal skills. Driving skills, of course, is paramount, but each driver's race craft, fitness, mental acuity, personality, cultural flexibility, media skills and other attributes will also be assessed. The final six female rookies picked from the final list of 10 candidates from another round of selection to be held at Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia will undergo team building training with the other team members from Malaysia and Brunei and tests will be conducted to determine their ability of becoming a racer. They will be given a lifetime opportunity to train under Kenvin Low, who is also the Chief Trainer of Asia Advanced Driving Academy (ADDA). In addition, Red Bull Rookies senior, Carmen Lim will be available during the training sessions to provide further insights and tips to become a race car driver. With an illustrious driving career, Carmen was one of the candidates in the Red Bull Female Driver Search 2009, who took part in the Sepang 1000KM Race in 2010 in which she was the fastest female driver during qualifying. The Red Bull Female Driver Search provides females with passion for racing to hone their skills to become a professional race car driver. The goal is to find, fund and nurture aspiring, up and coming female Singaporean driving talents by preparing them to race in the Sepang 1000KM Race.
