From the company that gave us Symmetrical All Wheel Drive, this concept looks promising!
Subaru claims that the XV concept defines a new generation of crossover vehicle, and it is easy to see why. While being famous for the rally-proven Impreza WRX STI, they are also well known for SUVs such as the Forester. The XV for Subaru, is a look at what the next Outback will probably look like.
While Outbacks of the past look like jacked-up station wagons, the XV looks refreshingly different. Designed around the “Protren†(Professional tool and trendy design) concept, it looks good with the hexagon grille, winged motifs and hawk-eye headlights.
The hexagonal design remains consistent throughout the concept. Subaru claims that the wheel arch cladding and black metallic highlights help to reinforce the “Protren†theme. Inside, the concept features sporty mesh materials and funky design details to create a sporty, yet stylish feel.
A large multifunction display sits in the centre panel, including the three different displays for navigation, car audio and vehicle information feature touch panel technology. Like the Impreza concept, we find no mirrors but rather, the “EyeSight†driving assist system, which feeds video to a monitor on the dash from cameras mounted high up on the door line.
Under the hood, the concept has a two litre boxer engine that is mated to a Lineartronic CVT. With the current (and upcoming) crossover cars we know about, we find that the XV has many plus points, which we hope Subaru will put into the final production car.
