With fresh styling and new technology, it looks as stunning as the concept that spawned it almost four years ago.
Finally, the XF is beginning to reflect the beauty of the original 2007 concept car. With new lines lifted from the XJ, the new XF features an all-new look to the front end with new headlight units, LED lighting strips and a larger, more upright grille. Further back, Jaguar has added a pair of subtle new vents and the tail lamps have been upgraded with LED lighting.
The interior of the XF has been updated with a new steering wheel and switches for the climate control. It also features a new colour scheme on the centre console, fascia and steering wheel where the "Tungsten" finish is replaced by a more contemporary "Aurora" theme. The seats are redesigned too, sporting a new look and better support while fresh trim finishes keep the interior bang up to date.
Advances have been made in refinement and equipment, with new sound deadening materials on the car as well as redesigned wing mirrors to reduce wind noise. The XF incorporates a central seven-inch touch-screen with a new polarizing filter for better clarity and with additional switches below it for instant switching between different functions. The main driver instrument cluster is now a full-colour TFT unit, similar to the one in the latest XJ.
Three new audio systems are offered on the XF with the 1200W, 17-speaker Bowers & Wilkins system offering top-notch audio quality. All audio systems can be specified with a hard-drive based satellite navigation system that can "rip" songs from CDs into memory. The system also offers more options for connecting music players: two USB ports and Bluetooth connectivity.
The new XF will be equipped with the existing engines, a 238 hp three litre V6 and 385 hp five litre V8. The XFR receives a 510 hp supercharged five litre V8 that will propel the cat from zero to 100 km/h in 5.1 seconds. The range-topper receives a more aggressive styling with three air dams that dominate the front of the car and a set of cooling vents set into the bonnet either side of the bulge. New sill extensions run down the side of the car framed by redesigned 20-inch wheels. At the rear the new lights sit above a redesigned bumper complete with a subtle diffuser.
Jaguar's new XF also features a market-specific 190 hp 2.2 litre AJ-i4D turbodiesel engine. Featuring low-friction pistons, water-cooled turbocharger, active engine mounts and modifications to the sump and block, it is Jaguar’s most fuel-efficient engine. To aid its efficiency, the new engine is mated to a new eight speed ZF automatic gearbox which boasts instant gear changes and the ability to perform multiple downshifts using the shift paddles.
