Launched in partnership with the Automobile Association of Malaysia (AAM), the programme is targeted at making women more road-savvy.
The "Women with Drive" a free community service workshop for women, conducted by Goodyear Autocare experts to educate female motorists on vehicle maintenance and on road safety. The programme also aims to empower women with the confidence and knowledge of basic auto care. This will help them to make important decisions about their cars and their driving styles.
According to Ivy Peng, Goodyear Sales Director, "This is a fantastic opportunity for women to build their confidence and become savvier on the road. Women play a very important role in decision-making both at work and at home. Therefore, it is essential for them to understand the mechanics of their vehicles and choose what is best for them based on their different needs to avoid being cheated if unfamiliar. This is the first time we are running this programme in Malaysia and we urge all female motorists to hop on the bandwagon as it will be a fun, educational and informative experience".
"On behalf of Automobile Association of Malaysia (AAM), we are proud to be affiliated with Goodyear and the first ever "Women with Drive" programme in Malaysia. We believe that this programme will be a great hit, providing Malaysian women with an accessible channel to better understand their vehicles while keeping themselves, and their families safe," said Melinda Ngiew, CEO of AAM.
Also present at the launch of "Women with Drive" were local female celebrities, including television host, actress and singer Sarimah Ibrahim, television personality, emcee and model Bernie Chan, television host, writer and producer Xandria Ooi, young handbag designer Sasha Rowena and Team Goodyear's very own female drifter, Azrina Jane Abdullah.
At present, the Goodyear "Women with Drive" programme has been launched in Australia, China, Indonesia, India and the Philippines. Each country kicked off the programme with various activities. In China for instance, a viral video and an informative booklet were released. A talk show with fun activities was launched in Indonesia, a Ride and Drive safety clinic in The Philippines and general workshops were held for women in Australia and India.
In Malaysia, the programme will see a series of articles being run on the topic of car and road safety. It will kick off with its first "Survival Training" programme in May with the aim of sharing tips and precautions to driving the family around safely, unfolding common myths about auto care and on defensive driving styles. In these workshops, women will also be given an opportunity to experience a “hands-on†approach on how to check their car's basic safety systems which include the engine, fluids, electronics, belts, under carriage and tyres. These workshops will be open to the public.
