Peugeot's electric concept car establishes a new lap record on Germany's Nürburgring-Nordschleife circuit...for electric cars.
For the first time in its history, Peugeot attempted to set a record on the Nordschleife track. With Stéphane Caillet, Peugeot's R&D driver and tuner-technician, the EX1 covered the circuit's 20.832 kilometres. With its 73 bends and 300 metres of altitude difference, the Nordschleife has a reputation for being the toughest circuit in the world.
The EX1 beat an electric speed record by putting in a lap time of nine minutes and 1.338 seconds at an average speed of 138.324 km/h despite weather conditions which were far from favourable. The previous electric speed record on this circuit was set by a race-prepared Mini E, which clocked a lap time of nine minutes and 51.45 seconds.
While electric cars are still over two minutes between the fastest petrol-powered super cars and track cars, we are seeing progression for electric car development. This record-breaking achievement however, would be a nice milestone for Peugeot. Happy 200th birthday!
