Seven, that's how many versions the Subaru WRX has gone through, three less than its direct competitior, the Mitsubishi Evolution.

The best way to determine the version of a WRX is to look at the chassis code. All WRXs sold between 1992 and 2000 have the beginning chassis code of GC8, which connotes the first generation sedan variant, like the one you see here.

Packing 240 bhp and 300 Nm in the early 90's from a stock car was a pretty mean feat. Those specs enabled the 1,220 kg car to propel to 100km/h in 5.9 secs.

Not only could it go fast, the front and rear brake rotors were ventilated discs that boasted awesome stopping power as well.

This fine example here though, has a set of upgraded brakes - sporting a set of Tarox calipers and slotted rotors. The exhaust system is a Supersprint item (below).

Needless to say, the WRX revolutionized the go-fast scene locally and across the globe. There was even a Type RA version, a stripped down model mainly purchased for motorsports.

Even the interior was satisfyingly comfortable. It was a practical 4-door sedan that could seat five adults easily. Some versions of the GC8 were even equipped with a 3 spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel from Nardi.
