There’s no need to give up hot hatch thrills even after you’re all grown up.


For a rather rounded-edge SUV, those downward-sloping headlights and signature pointy Alfa Romeo grille combine to give the Stelvio Veloce a fierce face, akin to a shark stalking its prey. Large air inlets at the bottom of the front bumper add to this fiery countenance, with the adaptive cruise control sensor housed in the right-side inlet. A clamshell bonnet with power creases on either side rounds off the top of the front-end. Around the side sits a solitary black ‘Veloce’ badge on the muscular front fender, reminding one that this is a pretty hot variant of Stelvio. Letting the eyes drop downward, one can’t help but notice the recognizably-Alfaesque telephone-dial 20-inch rims. Shod with 255/45 R20 Michelin Latitude Sport 3 tyres, this combo offers nice ride pliancy combined with generous levels of grip in the beating rain.

The car we’re testing here is a face-lifted RS5. Mostly the same as the outgoing model, the front of the car sports the most distinctive tweaks. To give the updated car a fresher face, Audi has opted for perpendicular diamond-shaped black side grilles that house the fog lamps. Along with a minor redesign on the headlamp LEDs, these side intakes make the face a bit more aggressive.

Efficient, quick and usable. The new Audi RS5 is pretty much the dream car of most high-flying executives in Singapore. We just wished it was a tad bit more special.


Set your eyes on the S5 and the same sleek lines from the A5 will put a smile on your face. A friend of ours is looking at purchasing an A5 and his words were “It was love at first sight”. The S5 though, has chunkier bumpers and larger side skirts with a matte black trimming than contrasts well with the white paint on our test car.

With this 252 bhp variant (the base model gets 190 bhp), Quattro is standard. The lovely new chassis platform known as 'MLB-Evo chassis' yields a car that is lighter, more playful and nimble on the road. Steering inputs are precisely executed and while a little on the light side, never feels vague. I’d dare say the combination of a strong power output and sublime handling almost makes this A5 quite S5-like! I enjoyed driving it more than I did the 3.0-litre S4.

The 1.8 TFSI aside, what we have here today is the ‘entry-level’ variant: the 1.4 TFSI. Yes it shares the same powerplant as the Golf, but somewhat this one feels - and I swear it isn’t psychological - smoother. And of course, this is a good thing (and expected), considering the almost $44,000 (equivalent to a five year old, highly-spec’d Fiat Bravo T-Jet, egad!) separating the two. Microsoft and Turn 10 Studios has announced details for the Limited Edition version of ‘Forza Motorsport 5’.


All this is the result of an engine rigorously designed for low load-change and flow losses; the high-revving four-liter powerplant develops power quickly and instantenously. Two twin-scroll turbochargers produce up to 1.2 bars of boost pressure also contributes to the dynamic character of the twin-turbo V8. Flaps in the exhaust can be opened for a rawer sound. The Audi RS7 Sportback uses just 9.8 liters of fuel per 100 km with the performance to match!
