Legendary designer Adrian Newey has committed his long-term future to the Aston Martin Aramco Formula One team.

Let’s be real, when someone like Newey, arguably the greatest technical mind in F1 history, decides to join your team, it’s not just big news.

The man has a resume that speaks for itself: 25 Formula One World titles to his name, leading the charge at teams like Red Bull Racing and McLaren. But what’s particularly exciting about this move is that it marks a fresh challenge for Newey, one where he feels he can bring something new to the table, and Aston Martin seems to be the perfect fit for that creative energy.

Starting March 1, 2025, Newey will take on the role of Managing Technical Partner at the team’s state-of-the-art Silverstone headquarters, a shift that signals Aston Martin’s serious intent to compete at the very top.

So, what’s drawing Newey to Aston Martin at this stage in his illustrious career?

For starters, it’s the brand-new AMR Technology Campus, a jaw-dropping facility in Silverstone that showcases the team's ambition to become championship contenders.

Combine that with the technical reset coming in 2026, the team’s partnership with Honda for power units, and advanced fuels from Aramco, and you’ve got all the elements needed to stir Newey’s technical imagination.

Lawrence Stroll, Aston Martin Aramco’s Executive Chairman, announced Newey’s arrival, “This is huge news,” Stroll said. “Adrian is the best in the world at what he does, he’s at the top of his game, and I am incredibly proud that he is joining us.”

For Stroll, Newey’s addition is the next chapter in the team's relentless push to fight for world championships. “As soon as Adrian became available, we knew we had to make it happen,” he added, recounting how their initial conversations revealed a shared desire for this once-in-a-lifetime collaboration.

“I am thrilled to be joining the Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team,” Newey said. “Lawrence’s passion and commitment are incredibly inspiring. He’s the only majority team owner actively engaged in the sport, and that level of involvement is rare.”

Newey was particularly impressed with the new AMR Technology Campus and the advanced wind tunnel at Silverstone, calling them “state-of-the-art” with a layout designed to foster creativity and innovation.

Beyond the physical infrastructure, it’s the team’s partnerships with Honda and Aramco that intrigue Newey. With these powerhouses providing cutting-edge technology and support, the pieces are in place for Aston Martin to finally emerge as a championship-winning team.

“I look forward to reaching that goal,” Newey said. And when someone like Adrian Newey says that, you can bet the rest of the grid will be paying attention.
