I am currently driving a twelve-year-old Subaru Impreza 2.0 RS. Mechanically the car is fine; but with age comes wear and tear. The steering rack, suspension parts along with all the bushings need replacement. On top of that, a major service is due (not forgetting preventive engine parts to prevent future headaches). Oh, new brake rotors and pads to be thrown into the list as well. Then let’s not forget the $1.6k annual road tax. Adding all these up, the itch to get a brand-new car is real…

The F1 circus was in town over the weekend and to soak in the atmosphere, McLaren had invited yours truly over for brunch. This, however, was no ordinary brunch – besides McLaren owners, also going to be present was Zak Brown, the CEO of McLaren Racing and Rob Melville, McLaren Automotive’s Director of Design.

Sounds like a good time to catch up with the man in charge of design at McLaren. You see, McLaren had undergone a huge change in terms of design; case in point, the difference between the MP4-12C and 650S. Basically the same car but with significantly different faces; plus it is only after the 650S that you’d notice a more uniform face across all their models.

As car enthusiasts, I am pretty sure every one of you has that deep, inner desire to own different cars for different needs. “Gotta impress my date tonight, I think the Porsche Cayman may get ME somewhere later after dinner, hurhur.” And then for some days, “I need to go grab some groceries, lets just use the Qashqai so I can dump everything into the boot.” Or even, “Ahh… I have a pitch with an important client after lunch, maybe I’ll leave my Z4 at home and drive the Discovery Sport and look responsible but rugged.” Then for you lads with family, “I’m gonna take the missus out for a nice cruise, shall take the Miata”; while for most times, “Family dinner with the kids and in-laws, will just use the Vellfire today.”
