Aston Martin clinched a historic victory at the Crowdstrike 24 Hours of Spa.

Held at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit in Belgium, this win marks Aston Martin’s first overall triumph at Spa since 1948.

Aston Martin's partner team, Comtoyou Racing, drove to victory with a stellar lineup of works drivers: Mattia Drudi from Italy, and Danish aces Marco Sørensen and Nicki Thiim.

The win was particularly special for Sørensen and Thiim, affectionately known as the ‘Dane Train,’ as it was their first overall 24-hour race victory as teammates, despite having three 24 Hours of Le Mans class wins between them.

Reflecting on the triumph, Sørensen said, “This is a very special moment. Winning with the new Vantage GT3 in its first year is an amazing achievement. It’s a fantastic car, and we’ve felt good about it all year. But winning such a prestigious event takes more than good driving and luck; it’s a team effort. Everyone at Aston Martin Racing and my teammates deserve credit for this victory.”

Thiim echoed his sentiments, “It’s hard to put into words what this means to me and to Aston Martin. We’ve been chasing this win for a long time, and to achieve it this way is incredible. My bond with Aston Martin is deep, and this victory ranks among our best memories together.”

Drudi, a Fanatec GT World Europe champion, put the #007 car in contention every time he took the wheel, notably during the opening hours where he propelled the team into a leading position before the first of multiple Safety Car periods.

A night of torrential thunderstorms and numerous incidents saw Comtoyou Racing remain composed, keeping the car in touch with the leading pack. As morning dawned and the track dried, the team found themselves in a fierce battle for victory against a Ferrari and two BMWs.

In the race's final hour, the #7 Comtoyou Racing Aston Martin trailed the Ferrari by 10 seconds. However, a crucial pit stop incident involving the Ferrari allowed Drudi to take the lead and race unopposed to the finish line.

Gunn brought the #34 Walkenhorst Vantage GT3 home in fourth place, capping off a strong performance that saw the team lead multiple times.

Walkenhorst Motorsport, a former winner of the event, also came close to clinching the Silver Cup class victory with the #35 Vantage GT3, driven by Romain Leroux, Lorcan Hanafin, and Maxime Robin, before an accident dashed their hopes.

Of Comtoyou Racing’s four-car entry, the #007 often proved the fastest, while the #21 Silver Cup car, driven by Charles Clark, Sam Dejonghe, Matisse Lismont, and Xavier Maassen, finished sixth, having led their class earlier in the race.

Adam Carter, Head of Endurance Motorsport, praised the team’s effort, “Congratulations to Comtoyou Racing on this fantastic victory for the new Vantage GT3. This performance at Spa was a blend of technical excellence, endurance, fortitude, and execution.”

Aston Martin's previous best finish in the GT3 era was a competitive third place in 2021 with Gunn, Sørensen, and Thiim.

Before that, the best GT finish was third in 2008 with the Gigawave DBR9 GT1. Aston Martin last won the event in 1948 with a 2-Litre Sports DB1 driven by St John Horsfall and Leslie Johnson.
