It’s Official: 1 Out Of 10 Cars In Singapore Is A VW

Volkswagen Group Singapore reached a new milestone in 2011 by handing over 3,152 passenger cars to customers in Singapore, in the process achieving a market share of 10 percent.

Europe’s number one automaker continued to outperform the car market in Singapore. While total new car registrations fell by 31.4 percent to 32,129 units, Volkswagen’s share of the market increased from 7.3 to 10 percent.

The best-selling car was the Jetta, which underwent a complete model change in 2011. A total of 740 customers took possession of a Jetta last year, and there was also extremely strong demand for the Scirocco (563 units), Golf (531 units) and Touran (522 units).

Said Dr Zeno Kerschbaumer, Managing Director of Volkswagen Group Singapore: “With one in 10 new cars sold here being a Volkswagen, it’s clear that motorists in Singapore increasingly appreciate our technologically advanced and environmentally responsible model range. In addition, the competitive pricing and low running costs of Volkswagen cars make them very attractive to own.”

He continued: “2011 proved a very challenging year for the automotive industry in Singapore, with the reduced COE supply leading to volatile quota premiums. In light of this, we can be pleased that we continued to reach out to so many car buyers.”

To celebrate this achievement, Volkswagen is giving out an exciting range of “spin to win‟ prizes, valued between $200 and $10,000, to all customers who book a new car from 13 to 17 January 2012; these prizes are being offered on top of the existing New Year promotions.

For 2012, customers can look forward to the launch of the new CC and the 21st Century Beetle, both of which feature Volkswagen‟s highly rated TSI engines and DSG dual-clutch gearbox technology. New versions of existing models will also be introduced to offer buyers the widest possible range of cars to choose from.
