After the completion of Rainforest Challenge (RFC) 2009, it was, at last mission accomplished to RFC's 'Unfinished Business of 2007 and 2008.'


With appropriate optimization in engine technology, the maximum output of the 3.0-litre power unit is increased to 340 hp with peak torque at 450 Nm, increasing briefly with the Overboost function to 500 Nm. With the kick-off of the event in Asia on the 8th of July 2010, the Shell Eco-marathon has finally achieved the status of being a truly global event for the first time with 80 per cent of the teams making it on to the track for the inaugural Shell Eco-marathon ASIA 2010 which is comparable to teams who participate in Europe and the United States. Ferrari President Luca di Montezemolo, was recently interviewed by a team of journalists for several BBC TV and radio programmes broadcast.


And they certainly learnt a lot from the chief instructor Rick Bates of Australia, a former international rally champion who now runs Bates Advanced Driving in Canberra to provide all levels of driver training, including rallying and racing. His expertise was telling, particularly in showing how things were done as he accompanied the participants through all the exercises. Just as well that the venue suited the programme, with The Plaza at the Changi Exhibition Centre in Changi Coast Road providing the wide open space needed for such a safety event.

Like the manual STI, the A-Line is equipped with Subaru’s SI-Drive system that allows the driver to select his or her preferred mode of driving, a trend that is commonly found in most performance cars these days. With the SI-Drive, three modes are available. Push the knob downwards to select 'Intelligent' for eco-friendly driving, twist the knob left for the normal 'Sport' and right for 'Sport Sharp' if you need sharpened throttle response for spirited driving. Naturally, we had it in 'Sport Sharp' for the most part.
