Aston Martin Valkyrie To Compete In World Endurance Championship

Unveiled in all its aggressive, aero-sculpted glory, the Aston Martin Valkyrie race car is set to take on the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) and IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship in 2025.

Aston Martin has also set its sights on the 24 Hours of Le Mans, chasing its first overall victory since 1959.

At the heart of this campaign is The Heart of Racing (THOR). THOR will spearhead the Valkyrie’s dual championship challenge, fielding two entries in WEC and one in IMSA’s GTP class.

Adrian Hallmark, CEO of Aston Martin Lagonda, describes the moment as a return to the brand’s racing DNA.

“To be back in the fight for overall honours at Le Mans is at the core of Aston Martin’s heritage. The Valkyrie represents the pinnacle of our motorsport ambition.”

The Valkyrie is Aston Martin’s most advanced racing project to date, and it carries a name that already commands instant respect on the world’s most demanding racetracks.

Unlike other hypercars built purely for competition, the Valkyrie race car traces its origins to the road-going model, a machine already regarded as one of the most extreme performance cars ever built.

Developed by Aston Martin Performance Technologies and refined through a 15,000km global testing programme, this beast is powered by a 6.5-litre naturally aspirated V12, a lean-burning, high-revving unit optimised for the brutal demands of endurance racing.

Adam Carter, Aston Martin’s Head of Endurance Motorsport, sums it up best: “The Valkyrie is a revolution in automotive engineering. With an extraordinary fusion of Formula 1 technology and road-car mastery, this is a machine built to dominate.”

Aston Martin is leaving nothing to chance when it comes to its driver line-up. The 007 Valkyrie will see Harry Tincknell, the last British driver to win at Le Mans with Aston Martin, joined by Tom Gamble, a rising star in endurance racing.

The 009 entry will be piloted by triple FIA GT world champion Marco Sørensen and Alex Riberas, an established name in Aston Martin’s GT racing programme.

Meanwhile, in IMSA, Ross Gunn and Roman de Angelis will lead Aston Martin’s Valkyrie GTP challenge, bringing their championship-winning experience to North American circuits.

For Ian James, Team Principal of THOR, this project is a landmark moment for Aston Martin.

“For anyone involved in sportscar racing, running a car at this level for Aston Martin is an honour. To be entrusted with a car that is the true descendant of a road-going hypercar, it’s something special.”

Aston Martin has been absent from the top tier of Le Mans for far too long. Now, the Valkyrie is here to put the brand back where it belongs, at the very front of the endurance racing world.

Let the fight begin.
