Singapore Grand Prix to Debut Formula 1 Sprint in 2026

If you’ve ever wished the Singapore Grand Prix would turn the wick up from Friday all the way to Sunday, good news: from 2026, Marina Bay is going full adrenaline diet.

Next year’s edition will stage Singapore’s first-ever F1 Sprint, turning the whole weekend into a pressure cooker of racing.

“We are thrilled to be one of six circuits to host the F1 Sprint next year. Fans can look forward to even more competitive racing as the drivers go all-out on all three event days.”

So, what changes on the weekend?

Free Practice 2 on Friday will be replaced by Sprint Qualifying. On Saturday, the usual FP3 makes way for the Sprint race itself, before the traditional Grand Prix Qualifying later that evening sets the grid for Sunday’s main event.

For fans, that’s value across all three days; for strategists, it’s controlled chaos.

The Sprint was introduced in 2021 to encourage more wheel-to-wheel racing. It’s already delivered headline moments, including a memorable win for seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton earlier this season, his first in red and Ferrari’s first Sprint victory.

And this is where Singapore’s personality helps. The track rewards mechanical grip, traction, and the kind of patience that would make a monk proud. Add the Sprint’s shorter, more aggressive run, and you’ve essentially asked the drivers to perform a 100-minute chess match at blitz speed.

Why now?

Since 2022, the Singapore Grand Prix has crowned a new winner each year. It hints at a circuit that refuses to play favourites, and the 2026 rules reset should only widen the opportunity window. A new team entering the sport further shakes the jar.
